About

Una Moss is a project initiated by designer Heidi Erickson in an effort to minimize the impact of the fashion industry on the environment and its workers by hosting clothing swaps, teaching sewing workshops, and creating new items from textiles that otherwise might be headed to a landfill.

Why The name?

“Una Moss” is a play on the Spanish term “una más” which translates as “one more.”

Moss is a very small, hardy, and green ancient plant. In addition to being delightful to look at, mosses are important ecologically. They absorb huge quantities of water, helping to soak up rainfall and create a locally humid environment and prevent soil erosion. They can also catch pollutants, including carbon dioxide.

Una Moss aims to absorb the excess, and give textiles one more go ’round.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Organizing Clothing Swaps where participants bring no longer wanted textiles and exchange them for something different.

Equipping consumers to extend their relationship with what they already own by sharing skills to mend, alter, and rebuild.

Taking apart discarded items, making something entirely new, and selling the new products. The profits from these sales are reinvested in the project, ensuring that participation in swaps and workshops is free or as low-cost as possible.
